“Summer on the Seine”
The new 1880s jazz musical With songs by Gabriel Fauré
MONDAY, AUGUST 2 TUESDAY, AUGUST 3 @ 7:30 PM
Theatre Building of Chicago 1225 W. Belmont Avenue
Gabriel Fauré wrote a hundred sublime concert songs more than a century ago. For the Jazz Fauré Project, Dennis Luxion and Bobby Schiff arranged several of them for jazz quartet and 2 voices. The jazz harmonies belong to Fauré (he was way ahead of his time); our arrangers "simply" added the grooves from bossa nova, Broadway and blues to swing, rock and pop. But “Summer on the Seine” is musical THEATRE, so playwright Amanda Hartley Urteaga fleshed out a dozen characters and gathered them on the banks of the Seine in the early 1880s to model for an artist rather like Renoir, in a painting rather like “Luncheon of the Boating Party”. They may be an hour west of Paris, but they’re singing in English, thanks to adaptations by Arnold Johnston.
Admission is free and open to the public. But our budget is almost $7000, so you'll understand why we're asking everyone to consider a donation —every $10 counts! We've raised $3000 in about three weeks. Every gift, whether $10 or $300, from Chicago to Rhode Island, has been an inspiration to us. We have until August 1 at 6 PM (CDT) to complete our Kickstarter goal of $1650 and a bit more time to take in larger tax-deductible donations (Stage 773 at the Theatre Building is our non-profit fiscal agent). Join the fun by making a modest (but SO important) contribution at this link http://kck.st/970G8H. For larger donations, tax deductions and checks you can contribute via Paypal at our website http://www.cabaret-paree.com/jazzfaure/musical/support.
There’s VIP seating for our donors (just let us know which night you plan to attend) and modest thank-you gifts for all our donors, near and far. No matter how much is raised, the show will go on, because a little bit from a lot of people adds up. Best of all—Come see the show, BRING YOUR FRIENDS, pass along the basic info. Share this on Facebook, Twitter, Email, snail mail, telephone, and by WORD OF MOUTH! And if you know an influential person in the music theatre world, please tell them about the reading, too—we want to take the show on the road!
